Lead Wolf 🐺 in the BI and Analytics Platform Market Gartner rates
Microsoft as a Leader
for the 16th Time in a Row!
Microsoft
for the 16th
IT research and consultancy company Gartner has recognized Microsoft as a leader for the 16th consecutive year in the latest “2023 Magic Quadrant for Analytics and Business Intelligence Platforms” report. Moreover, for the fifth consecutive year, Microsoft is ranked first in the Magic Quadrant for completeness of vision and ability to execute.
Reporting Challenges for Companies
Quite a few companies around the world struggle with their reporting every day. This is no wonder, since the requirements associated with this are constantly changing. Many companies have multiple data sources and only moderately integrated BI tools with limited functionality, making it very difficult to make high quality decisions quickly and confidently.
Well-functioning BI tools also provide great added value for every ERP project and every digital transformation initiative!
The Magic Quadrant considers the Completeness of a Company’s Vision and the Will to implement it
With the Magic Quadrant, Gartner evaluates the position of companies in a specific technology market using the criteria “completeness of vision” (see x-axis) and “ability to execute that vision” (see y-axis).
The completeness of vision is about how well the company has developed its long-term strategy and vision for the market and how innovative it is in defining this vision. Does the company have a clear and comprehensive idea of its future? And how well prepared is it to anticipate trends and changes in the market environment?
The ability to execute describes the extent to which a company is able to execute its vision and successfully bring products or services to market, covering aspects such as product quality, customer care, financial performance, distribution channels and overall strategy implementation.
The four Quadrants
The two axes result in these four quadrants, into which the companies evaluated by Gartner are grouped:
-
Niche Players:
Vendors that limit themselves to niches can only score a few points in both categories. They may be good in their specific market segment, but larger vendors are superior to them. Niche players focus primarily on the functionality of their solution or a specific region or are completely new to the market. -
Visionaries:
Visionaries have innovative ideas and know the market inside out. However, they are not in a position to fully implement their visions. This category mainly includes companies that are entering new markets. Visionaries in more mature markets are usually smaller companies that want to compete or larger companies that aim to leave their niche. -
Challengers:
These companies have the ability to turn their vision into reality, but in many cases they still lack a strong vision. Challengers are usually larger players in mature markets who want to stick to their current business plan. If they manage to develop their vision further, they have the chance to become a leader. -
Leaders:
Leaders or leading companies have achieved a very high score - both in terms of the completeness of their vision and its implementation. These are mainly large companies in mature markets that have a large customer base.
Microsoft: regularly rated as a Leader - ahead of Google and Salesforce
Over the last five years, Microsoft has regularly achieved top positions in Gartner’s Magic Quadrant in terms of completeness of vision and ability to execute.
Gartner has even ranked Microsoft well ahead of Google and Salesforce and is positioned in the Magic Quadrant as a kind of lead wolf. 🐺 Do not forget that with Tableau, Salesforce also offers leading BI software that is used by companies worldwide.
