The changes affect both Power BI Pro and Power BI Premium-per-User (PPU) and mark the first global price increase in almost a decade. Why is Microsoft making the price change now and which customers should prepare for new prices? 💰
The first Global Price Adjustment since the Launch of Power BI in 2015
In 2023, Power BI prices have already been adjusted in some markets, including Germany: the price for the Pro license increased from €8.40 to €9.40 per user per month. Who is affected by the Price Change?
All commercial customers are affected by the adjustment, regardless of whether they have new or existing licenses. However, there are differences in the implementation:
Existing Enterprise Agreement (EA) Customers
Customers with EA licenses will retain their current prices until their current contract expires. The new price will not take effect until the next contract renewal. This means that these customers can continue to use the previous conditions for the duration of their current agreement.
New Customers without a Long-term Price Commitment
All new customers who purchase Power BI licenses after April 1, 2025 will automatically pay the new prices. This also applies to existing customers without a price commitment, e.g. with monthly or flexible subscriptions.
Customers with Microsoft 365 E5 or Office 365 E5 Packages
Users who use Power BI as a component of one of these packages are excluded from the price increase, as the prices of these packages remain unchanged.
Customers from the Non-profit or Charity Sector
These customers are currently excluded from the changes.
